The primary groups facing these mental health challenges include youth, whose mental health outcomes have been significantly impacted by educational pressures and socioeconomic challenges, as well as older adults struggling with diverse forms of trauma and loss. Community stigma surrounding mental illness, particularly in indigenous populations, can hinder open discussion about mental health issues and promote barriers to accessing necessary care and support.
This grant program aims to support peer-led organizations in American Samoa as they blend traditional cultural practices with modern mental health support systems.
